Looking For Impactful New Starters

Your story helps others make a difference where they are needed

I am researching for a non-fiction book about people who have left their previous careers behind to make a real impact—often in areas where hardly anyone else is willing to get involved.

Working title: Making an impact where no one else is. A treasure trove for mid-life new starters.

What this book is about

I am collecting concise, practical portraits of people who have moved from “everyday career life” to visible, measurable impact – in fields such as climate protection and adaptation, health, strengthening democracy, animal welfare, loneliness, and other important issues.

The book combines personal stories with scientific findings. At best, this will create a framework that brings together values and strengths with neglected problems and impact – supplemented by exercises that readers can apply.

Why I'm starting this

I am influenced by Rutger Bregman’s concern to live moral ambition in a concrete way. In the Moral Ambition Community, I have seen how much people flourish when they clarify their mission: Where do my skills intersect with a neglected, solvable, and important problem?

Many people are ready for a new, meaningful chapter in their life story—but they often lack a practical guide: What are my values and strengths, how do I overcome my fears and saboteurs, how do I find “my theme,” finance the transition, build alliances, and make an impact without burning out? This book aims to provide exactly that: inspiration + insights + encouragement.

Who I am looking for for the portraits

Courageous individuals, i.e., people who

have left or reoriented a conventional career,
create a tangible benefit for a community, region, or cause—not just as a concept, but in everyday life,
ideally in a neglected field where their strengths have a particular leverage.

What I ask for & time commitment

A 40-minute interview. You will receive the questions in advance. If necessary, we will arrange a short follow-up (≤ 20 min.) to verify facts. 

I can conduct the interviews in German, English, or French—whichever is easier for you.

Visibility with context: Short profile in the book + mention in the acknowledgments with a link to your project/profile.
Advance insight & usable material: PDF of the portrait for your own use (website/applications/PR), including 2–3 shareable social tiles.

Quote approval: Nothing will be published without your express consent.
Recording: Only with your consent and exclusively for transcription. The book will be published in German first.
Use: Material will be used in the book and in related workshops/articles; no disclosure to third parties.
Data protection (GDPR): Only necessary contact details will be stored, kept secure, and deleted at any time upon request.

About me

I support people and organizations through transitions – with coaching, peer learning, and community building.

After 18 years at a software company, most recently in global community building, I founded Flow Discovery to create spaces for living and learning in all colors. I love nature and metaphors – and good questions more than quick answers.
